Explosive and colorful, the tags and graffiti that appear on the walls of Paris are gigantic frescoes, incomprehensible to most passers-by, and provoking fury, rejection or interest. Chromes flops, blockletters, characters, or backgrounds, between the simple black tag more or less neat and the sumptuous wild-styles in color and relief to typography mastered, the list of forms of expression and techniques is long. While some inscriptions are simply vandalism, the most accomplished achievements arouse admiration, even among the uninitiated. The complexity of this profusion is accentuated by a certain vagueness in terms of legality: if it is an activity prohibited by law, at the same time, the best graffiti artists are recognized as full-fledged artists and invited to express themselves widely on authorized surfaces ... which does not prevent them from continuing the wild graffiti. The authors met the groups of graffiti artists from Paris and the suburbs: they deliver here their raw speech, translate their code names and reveal in a glossary the different techniques used.
