Dylan Mitro (b. 1995, Toronto, Canada) focuses on historical LGBTQIA+ storytelling through printmaking and photography.
During their Fresh A.I.R. artist residency in Berlin, they conducted research at the Schwules Museum, exploring the historic nightlife and community spaces that shaped the city in the 1980s and 1990s.
In Dylan's latest work, Inherited Thread, photography serves as a tool to observe and illustrate the past, providing insight into the topography of queer histories through archival ephemera. By revisiting these materials, they map forgotten landscapes in both their printmaking and photographic practice.
Their work explores the duality of queer kinship, love, and pleasure alongside complex narratives of grief. Dylan was awarded the opportunity to realize this project as the inaugural recipient of the Martha Cooper Scholarship for Documentary Photography, granted by the Berliner Leben Foundation.
